What technical conditions should be met for dry-hung stone on exterior walls?

Due to the many advantages of dry hanging stone on the exterior wall, such as safety, less lesions, and ultra-high installation, dry hanging of exterior wall stone is very common. Although there are many advantages of dry hanging stone, but not any stone can be used for dry hanging, it has certain requirements for stone, and the stone must meet certain technical conditions before it can be used for dry hanging, otherwise the dry hanging stone will have potential safety hazards and risks.

Dry-hung stone should meet the following technical conditions:

1. Requirements for materials

There are no strict requirements for the type of stone for indoor dry hanging, but the industry standard JGJ133-2001 for outdoor dry hanging stone requires the selection of igneous rock, that is, granite. Because the main structural materials of granite are feldspar and quartz. They have the characteristics of hard texture, acid and alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance, sun and rain resistance, ice and snow freezing resistance, good wear resistance, etc., and have a long service life. In fact, many building exterior wall dry hanging is not strictly in accordance with the requirements of this specification, and it is very common to dry hang lime stone such as travertine on the exterior wall.

2. Thickness requirements

The thickness of the dry-hung stone should not be less than 25mm on the polished surface, and the thickness of the coarse panel should not be less than 28mm. When there is a groove on the surface of the stone, the thickness of the dry-hung stone should consider the depth of the groove, and the depth of the groove should be taken into account. The thickness requirements of the stone are determined based on the thickness of the dry pendant on which the stone is installed. When the thickness of the dry pendant is thickened, the thickness of the stone should be thickened accordingly.

3. Requirements for water absorption

Stone is a porous material, and the stone for dry hanging on the exterior wall is made of stone with low water absorption. As for whether travertine materials can be used for dry hanging on exterior walls, there has been a lot of controversy over the years. If it is really from a safety point of view, the safety risk of dry hanging of travertine used for exterior walls is still very large.
The water absorption rate of granite ≤ 0.6%, the water absorption rate of marble ≤ 0.5%, and the water absorption rate of limestone and quartz stone ≤5%.

4. Requirements for surface form

The surface form has an effect on the thickness of the stone. When calculating the thickness of the stone surface, it should not be calculated by the highest point of the stone surface, but by the lowest point of the stone surface. This is the case for calculating the thickness of lychee noodles, fire noodles and pineapple noodles for stone.

5. Strength requirements

THE FLEXURAL STRENGTH OF DRY-HUNG STONE IS GREATER THAN 8MPA. For some cracked and low-strength stones, the strength should be increased by reinforcement. Stone like lime stone is best reinforced with steel bars, aluminum bars, and fiber nets behind the stone according to the material.
DRY COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH REQUIREMENTS: GRANITE ≥ 100MPA, MARBLE ≥ 50MPA, LIMESTONE ≥ 28MPA, SANDSTONE ≥ 68.9MPA.

6. Requirements for opening dry hanging grooves

There are two types of stone dry hanging grooves, one is a through groove, and the other is a short groove.

When the groove is through:
(1) the width of the groove is 6mm or 7mm, the thickness of the stainless steel support plate should not be less than 3.0mm, and the thickness of the aluminum alloy support plate should not be less than 4.0mm.

(2) There shall be no damage and cracking after the stone is grooved, and the notch should be polished into a 45° chamfer, and the groove should be smooth and clean.

When
the groove is short: (1) the upper and lower edges of each stone should be opened two short flat grooves, the length of the short flat groove should not be less than 100mm, the depth of the groove h in the effective length should not be less than 15mm, the width of the groove should be 6mm or 7mm, the thickness of the stainless steel support plate should not be less than 3.0mm, the thickness of the aluminum alloy support plate should not be less than 4.0mm, and the effective length of the arc groove A should not be less than 80mm.
(2) The distance between the two short groove edges and the two ends of the stone should not be less than 3 times the thickness of the stone, and should not be less than 85mm, and the groove should be smooth and clean.

7. Installation requirements for steel pins

The hole location of the steel pin should be determined according to the size of the slate. The hole position shall not be less than 3 times of the thickness of the stone, and shall not be greater than 180mm; the spacing of the steel pin should not be greater than 600mm; when the side length is not more than 1.0m, 2 steel pins should be set on each side, and the composite connection should be used when the side length is longer than 1.0m; the hole depth of the stone steel pin should be 22~33mm, the diameter of the hole should be

5mm or 6mm, and the length of the steel pin should be 22~30mm;
There shall be no damage or cracking at the hole of the steel pin of the stone, and the hole diameter shall be smooth and clean.

8. Requirements for the board surface

The stone connection parts should be free of defects such as collapse and dark cracks. The collapse edge of other parts should not be greater than 5mm*20mm.

9. Area requirements

The surface area of the dry-hung stone should be ≤ 1 square meters, and when the surface area ≥ 1 square meters, the mechanical strength should be designed and reinforcement measures should be adopted.
