With the continuous development of China's national economy and the continuous improvement of the country's economic strength, natural stone flooring is still widely used in many new large-scale public buildings such as lobbies and corridors due to its luxurious decorative characteristics and durable practicality. However, the height difference of stone floor joints is always a common quality problem, especially in stone blocks with a size of more than 900 mm.

There are two main reasons for the uneven joints of the stone floor:

1. The performance of stone is not uniform

Different varieties of stone have great differences in chemical and physical properties such as chemical composition, porosity, water absorption, etc., even if the blocks mined in the same mining area, the deeper the burial depth, the greater the internal stress of the ore body. The release of internal stress is a very slow process, and if the block is processed into a plate soon after mining, the release of internal stress will also cause the deformation of the plate. Large slabs can also be deformed during stacking and transportation after processing.

Some varieties of stone will be greatly deformed after being wet, such as large flower green will be deformed and arched after being wet. Therefore, it is unrealistic to make the building plate reach a high flatness due to various differences in stone, deformation caused by water absorption and moisture, and it is not a problem that can be completely solved by stone processing at present.

2. At present, the processing of stone processing machinery in China cannot reach higher precision

Most of the large-scale stone processing enterprises in China have introduced the world's advanced CNC multi-head grinding machine, so that China's stone processing level has reached the world's advanced level. Since they are all disc grinding heads, the middle part of the large plate takes slightly longer to grind than the two side parts, so the middle part of the large plate after grinding is usually slightly concave. The unevenness of the stone material causes the uneven thickness of the cutting wool plate, which will also affect the flatness of the grinding slab.

• The use of new technology to solve the old problem

To sum up, it is difficult to achieve the high-quality effect of smooth ground as a mirror if the traditional paving stone technology is adopted, and it also limits the requirements of the design to adopt larger specifications. On the basis of learning Xi advanced experience at home and abroad, in 2001, we began to carry out the engineering practice of overall polishing of stone ground, and successively completed a number of projects such as Beijing Oriental Plaza, National Electric Power Dispatching Center Building, and the atrium lobby of Fangfeiyuan of Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, with a total construction area of more than 100,000 square meters, and obtained preliminary experience in polishing operation technology, control flatness and on-site sandblasting and chiseling.

Because it is a water mill construction, so the paved stone must be brushed on six sides of the stone waterproof protective agent, such as the stone waterproof protective agent is not brushed, it may cause new water pollution in the grinding operation. Through nearly a year of construction practice, the height difference of stone joints has been completely eliminated; The flatness can be tested with a 2m ruler to reach the standard of less than 1mm; The finish is not lower than the production level of regular large factories. The construction operation procedures and quality inspection plan have been preliminarily formulated, and all aspects need to be further improved.

Due to the new process of on-site grinding, it can not only completely eliminate the common quality problem of uneven stone joints, but also make the quality of stone ground reach a new level; At the same time, it also creates more open conditions for the design, as long as the paving quality is guaranteed, a larger size of stone can be used without increasing the thickness of the plate. The standard thickness of the engineering plate is used, the material with small color difference and similar texture is selected, the stone is protected on six sides after rough grinding according to the design specifications in the factory, the on-site paving is carried out according to the number, and finally the ground is polished as a whole, which can reduce the project cost to a certain extent
